Iron Man (2008) - LOVED IT! Saw it twice in the theater. Re-watched many times. One of the only modern VFX heavy films where I don't think there was a gratuitous or extraneous VFX shot.
The Incredible Hulk (2008) - Ugh. At least it wasn't the Ang Lee version. Edward Norton is the only reason I even bothered with this.
Iron Man 2 (2010) - Meh. Not great. Saw it in the theater. Wasn't impressed, but on re-watching caught more of the emerging Avengers storyline that I glossed over in the theater. At least we got Don Cheadle out of this!
Thor (2011) - Meh. Origin story. Thor is tediously brooding in this one. Watched it on an airplane from Paris to Seattle.
Captain America: The First Avenger (2011) - Again... origin story. Laying the groundwork for the larger universe. Fairly boring.
The Avengers (2012) - I love this movie! Saw it in the theater. Huge Joss Whedon fan. The first time Thor and Captain America really come to life. Hulk smash! Now, the stage is really set for the MCU! Thanos is previewed. The Infinity Stones are alluded to... this universe just got a bit more massive.
Iron Man 3 (2012) - Had some enjoyable moments, but it's basically a PG version of Bad Santa with Tony Stark playing the watered down version of Billy Bob.
Agents of SHIELD (TV 2013) - I struggled my way through this and got into it later in season 1, but lost interest by the time Ghost Rider showed up. Multiple Patton Oswalts doesn't hurt.
Thor: The Dark World (2013) - Rented this. Barely remember it. That's pretty telling.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014) - Skipped this in the theater because the first one didn't impress me all that much. I WAS WRONG! THIS MOVIE WAS GREAT! FIRST AVENGERS GREAT! The elevator fight alone is worth the price of admission!
Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) - Ok. I was surprised by this. I never read the comic. It was a lot of fun. Not a frequent re-watch, but I enjoy how much of the universe it puts into play.
Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015) - Saw this in the theater. Enjoyed it. Nowhere near the same level as the first film, but James Spader's introduction as Ultron makes it worth the watch if nothing else. Also Hulk vs. Hulk Buster Iron Man suit was fun.
Ant Man (2015) - I remember Ant Man vaguely from the time I spent reading comics. Never terribly interested in the character. Damn you Paul Rudd! Why is your ageless presence on screen always so entertaining? I was thoroughly entertained.
Captain America: Civil War (2016) - This was really the 3rd Avengers film. Ant Man going huge and kicking around an airplane while Spidey zips around made it all worthwhile. Not as good as Winter Soldier, but a fun ride. Also... BLACK PANTHER!
Doctor Strange (2016) - I love Benedict Cumberbatch. yeah.. reading the telephone book. Yada yada. Origin story. Kinda slow, but the visuals pleased this UCSC alum! Rented, but kinda wish I'd seen it in the theater for the full visual impact.
Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2 (2017) - Kurt Russell was in this, right?
Spider Man: Homecoming (2017) - Tom Holland is a great Peter Parker. It was fun to see an enjoyable Spider Man since it rotted on the vine with and after the third Sam Raimi incarnation. Love seeing Michael Keaton back in full swing!
Thor: Ragnarok (2017) - YES! YES! YES! More by Taika Waitiki please! Holy shit I loved this one!
Avengers: Infinity War (2018) - I'll put it this way. I saw it 4 times in the theater. Thanos is a fascinating antagonist. Cramming the sum of the threads developed in the last 8 bazillion films into a coherent, tension filled storyline really intrigued me. Unorthodox for sure. I left the theater each time wondering where this was going to go in the next installment.
Black Panther (2018) - YES! YES! YES! Chadwick Bozeman is fantastic. Michael B. Jordan playing Killmonger transfixed me. Conversation about his character and actions was VERY enlightening. Danai Gurira. So badass. So funny. I LOVED THIS MOVIE!
Ant Man and The Wasp (2018) - Ok. This was a lot of fun. The Ant Man movies definitely caught me off guard. The shrinking effect driven gags had me laughing out loud. I really enjoyed both of these films.
Captain Marvel (2019) - Another origin story... as much for SHIELD as it was for Captain Marvel. I was having fun during it, but not completely satisfied. BUT THEN... the last 20 minutes, when Captain Marvel lets go of the expectations that men have piled on her her entire life and embraces her true power... really owns it... BADASS! Captain Marvel unleashed was something to behold. The last 20 minutes of that movie gave me more goosebumps than the entirety of Wonder Woman... though I do still frequently re-watch the nomansland scene from WW frequently.
Avengers: Endgame (2019) - It came out last night. I can't really talk about it much because I don't want to spoil it for anyone. I have many thoughts. I will see again in a theater. If you do decide to go see this in a theater... go when it's packed. It's a movie made for an audience. Ours was cheering and laughing and generally having a great time of it. Plus, there's a really good Coen Brothers reference.
